With your contribution we prevent children born withcleft lip and cleft palate from having difficulties:   **Speech** Lack of a full palate causes nasal air leaks when speaking, which **affects the pronunciation** of words **Swallowing and eating** Babies with cleft lip and cleft palate face **feeding difficulties** and the risk of fluids reaching their airways is high **Hearing** Hearing problems are caused by **damage to** the eustachian tubes, which connect the **throat to the middle ear** **Breathing** Upper **airway obstruction**, especially when the palate is severely affected, causes breathing difficulties **Social Interaction** Allowing a child born with cleft lip and cleft palate to go untreated **affects** how **a person relates socially**, especially during childhood and adolescence ##
